Welcome

Collaborate for Research is a platform designed to connect medical students with experienced consultants and doctors for research projects, audits, and quality improvement projects. The website facilitates meaningful partnerships, allowing students to gain valuable insights and hands-on experience while contributing to innovative research in the medical field. By fostering these connections, Collaborate for Research empowers the next generation of healthcare professionals to develop their portfolios.

Benefits for Consultants

Centralised Platform for Opportunities

Consultants can easily find a variety of student-led or collaborative research projects in one place, saving time and effort. They can add their own ideas or browse the ideas of motivated students.

Where did the idea come from?

"During medical school, I was lucky enough to work with a fantastic research team. I learned the importance of collaboration in research and enjoyed the personal development that came along with it.

One of my supervisors invited me to a conference where they told me the importance of networking. I met some other doctors at the conference who worked at the hospital where I was based. They expressed to me how consultants would love to do more research but struggle to find a medical student who is interested.

This got me thinking, I knew lots of my peers were keen to improve their skills and were always looking for research opportunities, they just didn't know where to start. This gave me the idea of Collaborate for Research, a website that assists in fostering effective relationships and promotes advances in research, as well as allowing medical students to improve their portfolios. "

Projects

Primary research

Generating new information to advance medicine

Getting involved with primary medical research means actively participating in the process of new knowledge that can improve healthcare outcomes. This could be designing and conducting clinical trials, helping gather data through surveys, or assisting with observational studies.

Audits / QI projects

Enhancing patient care

Assisting with an audit or QI project is a valuable opportunity to engage in the evaluation of healthcare practices and outcomes. It allows the student to apply their theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, understanding the importance of data accuracy and analysis in improving patient care.

Secondary research

Providing valuable insights and contextual understanding

A unique opportunity to deepen understanding of existing literature and trends in medicine. By analysing and synthesising previously published studies, students can enhance their critical thinking skills and develop a more comprehensive knowledge base.

Systematic reviews / Meta-analysis

Enhance evidence based decision making

By evaluating and integrating data from multiple studies, you can develop the ability to discern quality evidence, which is essential for informed clinical decision-making.
